Chairman's Statement
"Our newest property, Metro City, Beijing, was completed during the year and came on stream in late March 2007"
Group turnover rose 5.7% from $202.6 million to $214.2 million with the retail division reporting higher sales. Profit before tax declined from $158.3 million to $81.7 million. An exceptional gain of $29.1 million was recognised on the disposal of about half of the Group's investment in Shui On Land Ltd ("SOL") shares whereas last year an exceptional gain of $118 million arose from the disposal of the Group's interest in the junior bonds and preference shares of Orchard Square Capital Assets Ltd, the securitisation vehicle for the Group's previously held 27% interest in Ngee Ann City. The directors are pleased to propose a special gross dividend of 3 cents per share and a final gross dividend of 2 cents per share or $15.5 million and $10.3 million respectively, after deducting income tax.
